12 Entry-Level Side Hustles for Moms and How to Upgrade Them

Ok, let me just say that a cash-back app is NOT a side hustle. This is a list of 16 actual side hustles for moms that can make you $2,000 to $10,000 a month or more, plus ideas on how to upgrade them, so can you make even more!

Real Side Hustles That Can Provide a Full-Time Income

One thing that bugs me, and one of the reasons I started this blog, is the number of blog posts that promise “real side hustles” for moms and then hit you with a list of cashback apps, checking accounts, and personal loans. Yuck!

This is a list of actual side hustles that anyone can do or learn to do pretty quickly and don’t require much experience. I chose them based on how easy they are to learn and if they offered any additional benefits like free training. (And only one is an MLM!)

How much you make will depend on how much you can put into them, but they all have the potential to help you build a full-time business. Check them out!

Best Entry-Level Side Hustles for Moms

1-Write Google My Business Listings for Local Businesses

What’s SEO, you ask? For small, local businesses, it might not matter. Google My Business listings can be far more important. GMB listings are one of the best ways for local businesses to show up on the first page of Google searches without all that fancy SEO stuff. Yes, you will need to know a little bit of SEO and know how to find good keywords for local businesses, but that’s pretty simple with a tool like this.

Bonus: Google released guidelines for writing these listings last year, making it pretty easy to write a decent listing.

There are a few ways to turn this side hustle into a full-scale business. You can offer SEO services or become an SEO services reseller. As a reseller, you would find the clients and then outsource the work to a company like TheHoth or independent freelancers.

2-Life Activated Brands

Life Activated Brands is a company that sells CBD products and other supplements. I almost never write about MLMs because I feel that they do a fine job of promoting themselves, but I love the fact that Life Activated has a “workflow” app that shows you what you need to do every day to market your business without relying on people you know.

You can join for as little as $1, depending on current promotions, and access this marketing feature, so whether or not you stick with the company long-term, you can apply the ideas in the app to pretty much any business. So $1 for marketing training + you can make some money? It’s a pretty good deal. Life Activated also sells “consumable” products (see why that matters here!) and sells products in a rapidly growing industry.

Like most MLMs, you can make even more if you recruit people under you. When combined with the fact that Life Activated has an app that shows you how to market its products to people beyond family members, this can be a great way to grow your income.

3-Website Testing

This is one that surprised me when I first heard about it, but it’s a pretty cool concept. Here’s how it works–websites have a lot of moving parts and links to other pages and websites. As a website tester, you would test these links to ensure that they all work and that the site is easy to navigate.

There are a few ways to turn this side hustle into a full-time income. You can start by offering monthly maintenance packages. Then you can begin hiring others on Fiverr to do the work for you and build a web testing agency. You can even offer additional services like upgrading plugins and security features.

4-Virtual Assistant

This is probably one of the most popular entry-level side hustles for moms out there because it’s so versatile and can include so many things. As a virtual assistant, you could be doing anything from social media marketing to appointment setting, so there is something for everyone. However, what I like about this side hustle is that you can start off by offering broad services and niche down.

There are so many different things you can do with this side hustle. You can niche down into social media marketing or Pinterest marketing, or you can start your own virtual assistant agency once you get enough clients. This allows you to earn some more passive income while giving others a job!

5-Become a Blogger

Ok, this is another popular stand-by, but there is a lot of room to grow with this side hustle, so I had to include it. You can get your foot in the door by starting your own blog and setting up a revenue stream like affiliate marketing or ads. However, you can also use your blog posts to score other paid blogging gigs while you grow your affiliate income. I currently work as a copywriter in addition to my blog, but you can write for places like Ranker, Hubpages, and other publications.

Upgrade This Side Hustle

Here is what I love about starting a blog–blogging is essentially about building an audience and then monetizing that audience. So once you have built that audience, you can really sell anything. It can be a product, course, or service.  The sky is the limit. Regardless of whether or not you want to be a full-time blogger, it’s always a good idea to have a blog to generate more traffic to your website or side hustle.

6-Housekeeping

Are you a mom? Probably. Are you reasonably good at housekeeping? Probably. If so, you might want to consider offering housekeeping services to your local community. The demand for a good housekeeper is usually pretty high, so this can be an excellent way to make some extra cash fast.

Upgrade This Side Hustle

This is another type of service that works really well with an agency model. Once you have established your business, you can start hiring other housekeepers to help you out. For this type of agency or other agency model jobs, you might need to be bonded, licensed, and insured, so it’s always best to check with all your local regulations.  (Bonus-Don’t forget to check out #1 on this list for an easy marketing hack!)

7-Design Logos

Are you interested in graphic design but just want to get your feet wet? Start with logo design. You can list your services on Fiverr or just contact local businesses in the area. Canva makes it easy to design beautiful logos in seconds. (I used a premade template for my Etsy Shop logo, and I’m obsessed.)

So there are a few ways you could go with a logo design business. You can start offering other graphic design services, or you can start a branding agency. If you are web savvy, you could offer website design or even scale your business all the way up to a full digital marketing agency.

8-Publish Books-Old and New

Do you want to become an author, but the thought of writing 100,000 words makes you squeamish? Guess what? You don’t have to do that! There are actually a few ways to make money with books, even if you don’t like writing. You can create zero-content books like notebooks and planners using a design tool like Canva, or you can republish older books that are in the public domain (Think Charles Dickens!) and add a beautiful new cover. Once you have your notebook, planner, or classic, you can create a free account with KDP and publish them!

Upgrade This Side Hustle

I love this side hustle because there are so many ways to go with it. You can create swag to go with your books, you can start writing romance novels, or you can open your own publishing house and help others self-publish their books. You can even pay others to ghostwrite fiction and non-fiction books.

9-Set Up an Etsy Store

I love Etsy because it has so many features that make it easy to grow an online business. It allows you to set up discounts in one click, it already has a steady stream of traffic, and it’s pretty user-friendly. All you have to do is choose a product and start selling. I recommend a product with a high-profit margin, like jewelry, so you can afford to run ads.

Upgrade Your Side Hustle

Here is another thing I love about Etsy–it allows you to set up a website in a few minutes with Pattern. Then you can integrate either your website or your Etsy shop directly into Facebook or Instagram. You may, at some point, want to switch to Shopify, but Pattern allows you to get the job done really quickly. However, it’s still a good idea to buy your domain name from a third party like Go Daddy for a few dollars a year.

10-Affiliate Marketing With No Website

While I do love the idea of starting a blog, you can also start affiliate marketing without a blog. One of the ways to do this is as a social media influencer, but it’s not the only way. You can start an Amazon deals Facebook group, post affiliate links on Pinterest, or promote your links in related Facebook groups. You can even create a product-focused Instagram account like a Bookstagram where you promote your favorite books, book merch, and more. Then just add affiliate links to your stories and bio.

Affiliate marketing without a website can be a bit of an uphill batter. However, one of the best ways to ensure success is to build a big audience. One training program I 100% recommend is CreatorU, which is a bit pricey, but it teaches you to build a large audience organically so you can make even more money.

11-Domain Reselling

Did you know that you could buy a bunch of domains for just a few dollars a year and resell them for much more than you paid for them? You’ll want to find domains that use highly searched keywords. This is another great way to use a keyword planner. Then you buy the domain and resell it to another business for much more than you paid for it.

Upgrade This Side Hustle

Instead of selling just the domain name, you can sell entire websites. Here’s how it works–choose a domain name in a highly searched category, build up a blog, drive traffic to it and then sell it to someone else once it gains traction. You can also do this with a dropshipping business, Etsy shop, or any other digital asset.

12-Drop Servicing

Are you not interested in marketing, housecleaning, or any of the other service-based businesses on this list? You can always consider drop servicing. With drop servicing, you can choose any service, whether it’s dog walking or moving services, and hire others to get the job done for you. When you are getting started, you’ll want to consider services that don’t require a lot of upfront equipment to keep your costs low.

Upgrade This Side Hustle

The sky is the limit when it comes to drop servicing. However, you may want to niche down and focus on one service or several related services to get the most traction.
