12 Great Ways to Make Extra Cash Before the Holidays
Things get tight really fast this time of year. Discover twelve great ways to lighten the load and make extra cash before the holidays.
It’s the Most Wonderful (and Expensive) Time of the Year!
Christmas is definitely one of my favorite holidays, and I think it’s genetic. My two-year-old is already wearing her hand-me-down Paw Patrol Christmas pajamas from her cousins. (And is insisting that my one-year-old does the same.)
However, as a single mom, this year is definitely a bit of a challenge, and I know many parents are in the same position. That is why I have rounded up a few great ways to earn some extra cash this holiday season. Quite a few of them are work-out-of-the-home kind of jobs because I wanted to make sure you could definitely get hired and start getting paid BEFORE the holidays got started. So here we go!

1-Promote Coupon Apps
This is a really popular side hustle that some big companies do, but they don’t talk about. Basically, you promote coupon apps and receive a commission every time someone joins. I like this one because it doesn’t cost you or the person signing up anything, and you could both make some cash. Some good ones include:
2-Holiday House Cleaning
If you don’t mind cleaning but don’t want to do it as a year-round gig, you might want to consider offering holiday cleaning services. Many people might not need year-round help but could really use a hand before parties and other events.
3-Petsitting and Dogwalking
Many people go away for the holidays or have many events, causing the demand for pet care services to skyrocket this time of year. It could be the perfect time to join Rover.com and begin getting paid to play with animals of all kinds!
4-House Sitting
If the idea of “sitting” is appealing, but you aren’t a pet person, you might want to consider house sitting instead. As a house sitter, you’ll probably be doing stuff like collecting mail, caring for plants, and making sure everything is in order–without the pet mess.
5-Try SMS Chat Jobs
Most retailers are looking for seasonal customer service work this time of year, but if phone work isn’t your thing or you have a lot of background noise (aka kids), you might want to consider applying to text or chat customer service jobs instead.
6-Become a Hallmark Merchandiser
Hallmark is always hiring part-time workers to monitor their inventory in-store. This is an excellent job for people who want the best of remote and in-person work. You’ll be able to do some work from home, and some will require you to visit stores, making it a unique hybrid position.
7-Become a Driver
This is an excellent option during the holidays when stress levels and tips are high and people need a lot of stuff. You might consider Postmates or Shipt for delivering things, while Lyft and Uber are perfect for delivering people. (Uber will even let you rent a car if you don’t have one!)
8-Try Mystery Shopping
There are many different ways to go about mystery shopping and a bunch of different companies hiring. It could be phone work, in-store work, or a combination of both. You could be tracking inventory, monitoring customer service, and anything else a company is looking for. Or you can try an app like Feild Agent. Field Agent is an app that hires “agents” to complete small tasks in stores, such as mystery shopping and other easy takes that can be completed quickly.
9-Join Task Rabbit
Task Rabbit is known for offering high-paying odd jobs that can be anything from assembling IKEA furniture to helping people move furniture to administrative assistant tasks. This can be a great side gig or even a full-time gig, depending on your area.
10-Sell Print-On-Demand Goods
Are you feeling a little extra holly jolly this year and want to try your hand at being Santa Claus? You might want to try creating print-on-demand products. These are typically gift items like mugs, t-shirts, and notebooks and are especially popular this time of year. Check out Gearbubble to learn more.
11-Shift Apps
There are a variety of apps out there that allow you to pick up shits in local restaurants, at events, and other types of businesses. Some of these include Wonolo, Shiftgig, and more. It seems like these apps don’t have availability in all areas, so it might take some digging to find ones with jobs near you.
12-Website Testing
This is another fun gig that can help you make some extra cash. There are a bunch of different websites that are looking for testers to make sure their websites are working properly. Some of these include UserTesting, Userlytics, and more.
Bonus-Start a Blog
If you are looking for a gig that will put a bunch of money in your pocket year-round, you might want to consider starting a blog. There are so many different ways to make money with a blog, and many bloggers are earning six figures or more! Check out my free blogging course to get started.
So there you have it–twelve great ways to make extra cash before the holidays! If you are looking for even more interesting ideas, check out my list of companies that hire part-time!
